Booger McFarland already has a replacement in mind after the recent resignations in the NFL Players Association. Chief strategy officer JC Tretter announced his resignation Sunday, just three days after NFLPA executive director Lloyd Howell resigned.

McFarland took to X on Sunday to commend Tretter for stepping down amid the heat surrounding him and others within the NFLPA. Not only that, but he also offered up an interesting suggestment to fill the void.

“Good move by him,” McFarland wrote of Tretter’s resignation. “Too much smoke around him. Our Union needs someone in the interim with leadership experience. (Domonique) Foxworth or Don Davis both fit the bill.”

Foxworth currently works for ESPN, where he hosts The Domonique Foxworth Show. He is a former NFL cornerback who spent seven seasons in the league and is a former NFLPA representatitive.

Davis is currently holds the title of chief player officer for the NFLPA. He was considered one of the frontrunners to replace Howell as executive director alongside Tretter before the latter resigned.

Davis is a former NFL linebacker who played 12 seasons in the league. He won a pair of Super Bowls as a member of the New England Patriots from 2003-06.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the NFLPA board expects to make a decision on a new executive director by Tuesday. It seems that Davis has the best shot of anyone at this point, but McFarland’s suggestion of Foxworth is intriguing nonetheless.

JC Tretter no longer up for executive director after resignation from NFLPA

Tretter was potentially up to be considered as the next executive director. However, with his recent resignation, he has officially pulled his name out of the running on that as well.

“Over the last couple days, it has gotten very, very hard for my family. And that’s something I can’t deal with,” Tretter said. “So, the short bullet points are: I have no interest in being [executive director]. I have no interest in being considered; I’ve let the executive committee know that. I’m also going to leave the NFLPA in the coming days because I don’t have anything left to give the organization.

“I want to get my story out there, and I don’t want it to look like this was sour grapes or I didn’t get the job and I wanted the job. All I want to do is tell my story and then go be with my family.”
