Sunday isn’t going to be all about Kyle Larson. Spotter Brent Wentz will have a busy day as he goes from Indy to Charlotte for Double Duty. Drivers aren’t the only ones who can go between IndyCar and NASCAR.

In his career, Brent Wentz is a two-time Daytona 500 champion and has an Indy 500 win to his name as well. He’s back with 2020 Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato for this weekend on the IndyCar side. Wentz will be in Kaz Grala’s ear in Charlotte later that night.

There are a ton of great personalities and stories in motorsports. It isn’t all about Kyle Larson and Josef Newgarden – it’s about the people who make the cars go and the people like Wentz who keep everyone safe and in order from the spotter’s stand.

The spotter spoke with NASCAR.com’s Zach Sturniolo about marking this off of his racing bucket list.

“It does rank up there pretty high,” Wentz said. “It’s like, I’ve watched John Andretti and Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch and all these drivers do it. But I’ve never seen anybody that actually works within the two series try to do it, so I thought I might as well give her a whirl.”

Who wouldn’t want to experience the Double? Whether you are Kyle Larson or Brent Wentz, on the track or above on the stand, it’s a big deal. These are two of the greatest races in American motorsports, even global motorsports.

Wentz has accomplished a ton in his career. Now he has a chance to add another accolade to the long list of others. If only the rain will stay away, everything should be smooth sailing for all involved.

Kyle Larson hoping rain doesn’t come down on his parade

It is May and the Spring season means chances of rain and storms. Unfortunately, that means the Indy 500 is under threat of storms. That is bad news for Brent Wentz and for Kyle Larson. Let’s not forget Jimmie Johnson, either. He’s broadcasting for the Indy 500 and racing the Coca-Cola 600.

The threat of rain and storms is enough to make everyone nervous. A delay could put a wrench in Larson’s plans. The last thing that Hendrick wants is to have to decide what to do – stay and race Indy or go to Charlotte and make sure he gets there in time for the 600.

So, there really isn’t a lot to do but wait and hope the forecast clears up. Right now, it appears there is a window for the race to happen. That window will be tight and even a little rain can put a hold on things for a while.

All I want is for Kyle Larson to make both races, complete 1100 miles, and let’s make sure Brent Wentz gets to do his job as well. The Double is an awesome thing and it would be a shame to miss out on it due to the weather.
