After being projected as a Top-10 pick by many experts, quarterback Shedeur Sanders suffered an unprecedented slide in the NFL Draft. Sanders didn’t hear his name called until the draft’s third day when the Cleveland Browns selected him with the No. 144 overall pick in the fifth round.

As expected, there have been no shortage of rumors attempting to explain Shedeur’s fall in the draft. One of those rumors is that Sanders performed poorly during pre-draft interviews with potential suitors. This rumor especially gained traction after an anonymous NFL assistant coach told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero Sanders’ interview was one of the worst he’s ever seen.

“The worst formal interview I’ve ever been in in my life,” the coach said. “He’s so entitled. He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has horrible body language. He blames teammates. . . . But the biggest thing is, he’s not that good.”

Anonymous sources aren’t the only ones claiming Sanders’ pre-draft interviews didn’t go smoothly. Todd McShay of The Ringer reported that Sanders’ pre-draft interview with the New York Giants went south after he took offense to criticism.

“Shedeur didn’t have a great interview with [New York Giants head coach] Brian Daboll in a private visit,” McShay said. “An install package came in. Preparation wasn’t there for it. [He] got called out on it. Didn’t like that. Brian didn’t appreciate him not liking it.”

McShay’s report only seems more likely after the New York Giants took Ole Miss‘ QB Jaxson Dart with the No. 25 overall pick in the first round instead of Sanders. On Friday, a reporter asked Brian Daboll about his pre-draft interview with Sanders but he danced around the topic.

“Yeah, I’d say we had good meetings with all the guys that came in here [for] visits,” Daboll said. “Quarterback meetings were productive. And, you know. we’re happy with Jaxson [Dart].”

According to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio, Giants general manager Joe Schoen shut down any further questions that could tie back to Sanders. Despite Sanders’ jaw-dropping slide in the draft, he seems to be happy with where he landed.

“Nothing really affected me the last couple of days,” Sanders said to the Cleveland media. “I’m blessed. I know I have to clean up some things in my game. The main thing is proving (head coach Kevin) Stefanski and Mr. (Andrew) Berry right about picking me.”

Shedeur Sanders will have plenty of chances to prove Daboll wrong in the upcoming season. Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry confirmed that Sanders will have an opportunity to win the QB1 title this fall.
