Brian Schottenheimer reacts to Jake Ferguson Cowboys extension, references Haley Cavinder engagement ring

News broke on Sunday morning that Dallas Cowboys and tight end Jake Ferguson has agreed a four-year contract extension with the franchise. The deal included $52 million in new money, $30 million guaranteed and a $12 million signing bonus
Cowboys headman Brian Schottenheimer took a playful jab at his newly-resigned TE when asked about the extension at Cowboys training camp. Ferguson is recently engaged to Haley Cavinder, a former Miami women’s basketball and social media star.
“Thrilled for Jake, and his family,” the Cowboys head coach told reporters. “I guess now he can afford the rock he got his sweetie.”
The couple, who have been together since 2023, became engaged on the beach in Florida. Cavinder, who has millions of followers on social media alongside her twin sister, Hanna, was quick to show off her special moment with her new fiancé on social media. The first thing you’ll notice is the giant rock on her ring finger.
A deeper dive into the ring shows that it appears to be a large oval-cut diamond that sits on top of a yellow gold band. With a ring like that, she almost had to say “yes.”

That was almost three months ago — and Ferguson was still on his rookie deal having just wrapped up his third season in the NFL. Now that he’s set to sign his new deal, he’s made Cowboys history. Not only does the contract make Ferguson the seventh-highest paid tight end in the NFL, he’s also the highest-paid TE in Cowboys history.
Ferguson’s receives his massive payday as he’s entering the fourth season of his rookie contract. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft and has been a consistent piece of the Cowboys offense since he joined the team. He was Dallas’ third-leading receiver in 2024 with 59 receptions for 494 yards.
Across his first three seasons with the franchise, Ferguson has caught 149 passes for 1,429 yards and seven touchdowns. Five of those scores came during the 2023 season — his most productive so far. He appeared in all 17 games for Dallas during the regular season and hauled in 71 receptions for 761 yards.
He gets to enter the 2025 season with a fresh contract as the Cowboys look to find their way back to the playoffs after last season’s 7-10 finish. That effort begins against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 4 to kick off the entire NFL regular season.
