Brian Thomas Jr. trade rumors: Jaguars HC Liam Coen sends strong message on WR ahead of NFL deadline

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen revealed where the team stands with wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. While speaking to reporters on Monday, Coen was asked if the team plans to trade Thomas, who has struggled this year.
“We have no plans on moving Brian Thomas Jr. at all,” Liam Coen said. “I’ve got a lot of confidence in him.” So far this season, Brian Thomas Jr. leads the Jaguars with 365 receiving yards, and his 27 catches are second to Travis Hunter, who has 28. However, Thomas is also tied for second in the NFL with five drops, according to ESPN.
The Jaguars selected Thomas in the first round (No. 23 overall) in last year’s draft, and he had a memorable rookie season. In 17 games, Thomas caught 87 passes for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns, and those numbers led to him being selected to the All-Rookie Team and the Pro Bowl.
“It means a lot to me to make that my rookie year, coming in, just me wanting to come out here and show what I can do,” Thomas said in July, per the Jaguars’ official website. “I feel like I could have been better, so that’s what motivates me to come out next year and do even better.”

Can Brian Thomas Jr. turn things around?
Thomas also talked about the possibility of receiving more attention from opposing defenses this season based on what he did in 2024. “I wouldn’t say it’s having a target on my back,” he said. “I would just say I’ve got to come out and prepare the right way and be ready for whatever the defense throws at us and come out and play team ball and get the job done.”
Thomas’ best performance this season came against the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 12, when he caught eight passes for 90 yards and one touchdown in a 20-12 loss. In his last game, the former LSU star caught just three passes for 31 yards in a 35-7 loss against the Los Angeles Rams on Oct. 19.
With the Jaguars having a bye this past weekend, Thomas had time to work on things that prevented him from taking off in the first seven games. He will look to get back on track when the Jaguars face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, Nov. 2.
