Britt Reid, son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, has prison sentence commuted

Missouri Gov. Mike Parsons commuted the sentence of Britt Reid, the son of Chiefs coach Andy Reid, late Friday.

Britt Reid was sentenced to three years in the Missouri Department of Corrections after he was convicted in a DUI crash. The younger Reid is a former NFL assistant, including with the Chiefs. He pleaded guilty in the fall of 2022 to driving while intoxicated causing bodily injury. He was involved in a wreck that severely injured Ariel Young. The 5-year-old suffered extensive injuries. Four other family members suffered injuries, as well

Britt Reid will now be under house arrest until Oct. 31, 2025. That runs through the rest of his initial sentence. The governor also specified other conditions of his probation. He will have weekly visits with his parole officer. He also faces weekly behavioral counseling sessions and meetings with a support sponsor. There will be community service and employment requirements.

In February, 2021, days before the Chiefs lost in the Super Bowl to the Bucs, Britt Reid hit two vehicles. The traffic accident happened near the team practice complex. At the time, Britt Reid coached outside linebackers. The team placed him on administrative leave after the accident and he did not travel to the Super Bowl in Tampa, Fla. The Chiefs then did not pick up his contract, which had expired at the end of the 2020 season.

The Chiefs paid for Young’s medical bills. The little girl suffered a traumatic brain injury in the crash. She was unconscious for 11 days after the crash and needed to learn how to walk, talk and feed herself again.

KC prosecutors said Britt Reid exceeded 80 miles miles per hour seconds before the crash. Then two hours later, a blood test revealed that his serum alcohol level was 0.113, above the legal state limit of 0.08.

Britt Reid, 38, worked on his dad’s staff with both the Chiefs and Eagles.
