Former top 10 draft pick and Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Jedrick Wills was carted off with an air cast over his right leg against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Wills was caught up in an Arizona defender tackling Browns running back Kareem Hunt. Hunt and the Cardinals defender cut the OL’s leg from under him and collapsed under the two’s weight. He was visibly distraught and hitting the grass as the training staff tended to his injury.

The cart was brought out for the Alabama alum, where both teams gathered around him and gave him well-wishes before getting further evaluated in the locker room. James Hudson III is listed as the No. 2 left tackle on the Browns’ roster, and will be looked at to fill the former first-rounder’s shoes as he makes a speedy recovery.

Cleveland led the Cardinals 20-0 at the end of the third quarter as the Browns look to improve to 5-3 on the season.

More on Wills

Wills is a former five-star recruit out of Lexington, KY (Lafayette), according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

Making up the best offensive line in the state — Wills played on the same offensive line as fellow five-star recruit Landon Young. Together, they led Lafayette to two consecutive KHSAA 6A championship game apperances in 2015 and 2016, respectively. The two would go their seperate ways in college to Alabama and Kentucky, respectively, and are both in the NFL in 2023.

With offers from Ohio State, Georgia, Notre Dame, LSU, Michigan and several others, he could’ve gone anywhere, but in the end, he chose Tuscaloosa as his next home. That decision paid off in a major way for Wills — and for the Crimson Tide.

Wills wasn’t an immediate starter, but he did appear in 11 games as a freshman with one start. Over the next two seasons, he started every game at right tackle before choosing to leave early for the 2020 NFL draft. That April following his junior season, the 6-foot-4, 307-pound blocker was selected No. 10 overall by the Cleveland Browns.

Earning a starting job out of the gate wasn’t surprising, but doing it on the NFL level at left tackle — after spending his high school and college careers on the right side — was eye-opening. The transition hasn’t been flawless necessarily, but Wills has done a more than servicable job protecting his quarterback’s blindside.
