Browns QB Shedeur Sanders reacts to support from President Donald Trump
Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders appreciates the support he is receiving from President Donald Trump. While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Sanders was asked about Trump praising his performance in the first NFL start on Sunday.
“He’s definitely been a supporter for a minute, so I’m just thankful for him even taking time out of his day to speak out his support,” Shedeur Sanders said, per 92.3 The Fan. After Sanders led the Browns to a 24-10 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, President Donald Trump went to Truth Social and shared his thoughts.
“Shedeur Sanders was GREAT,” Trump wrote. “Wins first game, career start, as a pro (for Cleveland). Great Genes. I TOLD YOU SO!”
That wasn’t the first time Trump spoke publicly about Sanders. During the 2025 NFL Draft, Trump went after NFL owners after Sanders wasn’t selected in the first round.
“He should be ‘picked’ IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN,” Trump wrote at the time. Ultimately, the Browns selected Sanders in the fifth round, and he became the first Browns quarterback in three decades to win his first start.

Shedeur Sanders will start for the Browns again on Sunday
On Monday, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Sanders will be the starting QB when the Browns take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Sanders took over for Dillon Gabriel, who was in concussion protocol last week. Gabriel is no longer in concussion protocol, but Sanders will still get the start.
“I’m definitely not comfortable, though, so that’s first and foremost that I have another opportunity to go out there,” Sanders said Wednesday, per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN. “But in life, you got to understand how quickly things come or how long it comes, it could be taken at any point in time.
“So I’m never comfortable in a situation I’m in. I always want to exceed expectations, and I always want to grow in each and every week. I would want to put a better product of myself, be a better version of myself for the team to be out there.”
In the win against the Raiders, Sanders completed 11 of 20 passes for 209 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He led the Browns to their third win of the year and first since they defeated the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 19.
