Bryce Young injury update: Panthers reveal QB's practice status ahead of Week 8 vs. Bills

Carolina Panthers (4-3) quarterback Bryce Young was a non-participant in practice on Wednesday. Young, who suffered an ankle injury in this past Sunday’s 13-6 Week 7 road win over the New York Jets (0-7), was present at practice in uniform, getting work done on the side.
According to Joe Person of The Athletic, Young was walking without a noticeable limp. Head coach Dave Canales said that while Young did more Wednesday than the day prior, he is still considered day-to-day.
“I saw a little bit of it. He did more than he did yesterday, so that’s good,” Canales said. “That’s our plan right now is each day, try to push him a little bit more and see if we can get him out there in a different capacity. He wasn’t gonna be able to practice today but was working on the side. He was able to do some movement stuff, and we’ll just take it day-by-day and make the best decision.”

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Monday that Young was expected to miss this Sunday’s Week 8 home contest against the Buffalo Bills (4-2). An MRI revealed that Young suffered a high-ankle sprain against the Jets, an injury which occurred in the third quarter while taking a sack.

Veteran signal-caller Andy Dalton closed the game out for Carolina. He completed 4-of-7 passes for 60 yards. Dalton will start under center against the Bills if Young is ruled out. The 37-year-old started five games last season for the Panthers, who went 1-4. If Dalton gets the start, Canales doesn’t expect the offensive philosophy to change.
“We’ll look at all that and see what the best version of us is,” Canales said Sunday. “But right now it’s running the football, and Andy can handle all those things and the pass game, the reps, the time on task with the group that we have, we’ve got to stay within the core of our system, and Andy’s fully involved in all that. So, if he does play, that’ll be the mode.”
The Panthers have won three consecutive games following a 1-3 start to the 2025 season. They are above .500 for the first time since Oct. 10, 2021. Young has played well during the winning streak, throwing for six touchdowns and two interceptions.
