Amid the drama and chaos last night, Bubba Wallace was able to push himself into the final transfer spot for the NASCAR Playoffs. While Austin Dillon made it more difficult by stealing a playoff spot with the win, Wallace did what he had to do.

Entering the race, Bubba Wallace was seven points below the cutline. He left Richmond Raceway +3 points up on both Chris Buescher and Ross Chastain. His last five races have perhaps been his best stretch of the season.

Starting at Nashville with that P7 finish he held his own at Chicago afterward and finished P13. Although that was a top-10 performance for most of the day as well. Pocono, P10. Indianapolis, Wallace finished P5 and on Sunday night at Richmond, he was P4.

After the race, Bubba Wallace and his teammate Tyler Reddick took quite the photo together. Reddick couldn’t believe what he saw, Wallace is just minding his own business.

23XI Racing as a whole has been performing very well lately. Both cars have finished in the top-10 in each of the last three races with both finishing in the top-5 at Indy and Richmond.

While Wallace is battling for a playoff spot, Reddick is fighting for the regular-season championship. Both picked up necessary points on the drivers that they are up against.

Reddick entered Richmond 15 points down to Kyle Larson and five points down to Chase Elliott. While Larson held onto his regular-season points lead, Reddick is now within 5 points for second. Elliott is a point behind Reddick for third. Meanwhile, Denny Hamlin is sneakily hiding 21 points back with three races to go.

Bubba Wallace is having historic playoff push

After the Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway, Bubba Wallace sat one spot out of the playoffs -51 points to the cutline. Since then, he has been on a tear, picking up points and closing a gap that, if it holds, will be the biggest comeback to make the playoffs ever.

Being 51 points down with seven races to go is a death sentence most seasons. That is a no-man’s land, you have to win in order to overcome that and make the playoffs. Wallace is defying that wisdom already.

In the four races since Nashville, Wallace has picked up 139 points in total. That is an average of almost 35 points per race. If that same trend keeps up in the last three races, Michigan, Daytona, and Darlington, the 23 car will likely make the NASCAR Playoffs.

Last night, Bubba Wallace saw his job get even more difficult. However, he’s kept his head down, kept plugging away, and is in the midst of reversing a points deficit no one even thought possible.
