Bubba Wallace reveals 'signs' pointed toward Brickyard 400 win: 'Nothing or nobody was gonna take the vision'

When Bubba Wallace woke up Sunday morning in Indianapolis, he knew a big day was ahead of him. It was Brickyard 400 day, one of NASCAR‘s Crown Jewel events.

Wallace felt that he was going to win it before the race had even started, he revealed Monday. Of course, he was right — Wallace won at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, snapping a 100-race winless streak.

“I’m not much of the superstitious type but there were a lot of signs when waking up Sunday morning that led me to manifesting tons of positivity. Walked in the drivers meeting and said I’m gonna be the one taking that trophy home,” Wallace wrote on X. “Nothing or nobody was gonna take the vision I had for Sunday away from me.

“To see it all play out and come together… it’s still unbelievable even though I believed it before it all happened. Life is crazy. The support and love is well heard and felt. Appreciate you all!”

Wallace didn’t have the best car for much of the afternoon at Indianapolis. Not everything went in his favor after he assumed the lead on Lap 143 when Ryan Blaney came down pit road. Wallace, however, kept his hands on the wheel, foot on the gas and saved just enough fuel to bring his No. 23 Toyota across the bricks first in double overtime.

Wallace has had more detractors than any driver in the garage throughout his career. He heard all of the noise over the 1,000 plus days he failed to get to Victory Lane. Sunday, he silenced them all.

“Unbelievable. To win here at the Brickyard, knowing how big this race is, knowing all the noise that’s going on in the background — to set that all aside is a testament to these people here on the 23 team. It’s been getting old riding around the cutline,” Wallace said. “… I’m already winning at life. I got the best wife, the best kid.

“People are always going to say something. I’m excited to see how far the goalposts move, so I get to be able to chase all that now. How many days since my last win? Zero.”
