Dallas Cowboys cornerback Caelen Carson will be out of action due to an injury he suffered during training camp. Per Todd Archer of ESPN, Carson suffered a hyperextended knee on Sunday and will be out for four to six weeks.

Archer mentioned the cornerback position has been hit hard with injuries, as the Cowboys have been without Trevon Diggs, Shavon Revel Jr. and Josh Butler. DaRon Bland returned to the Cowboys on Monday after missing about a week following the birth of his son.

Caelen Carson is entering his second year with the Cowboys after the team selected him in the fifth round of last year’s draft. The former Wake Forest star played in six games last year and recorded 27 tackles and four passes defended. He played in only six games because he was on injured reserve.

Why the Cowboys beleive in Caelen Carson

The Cowboys are expecting Carson to take a big step forward in his second season. He showed why the Cowboys drafted him in the team’s opener against the Cleveland Browns, as he held wide receiver Amari Cooper to two catches and 16 yards.

Due to the injuries to Carson and other Cowboys cornerbacks, the team signed veteran Christian Matthew. Matthew was on the Baltimore Ravens roster for the last two years, but was on the practice squad. He saw the most action in his rookie season with the Arizona Cardinals, where he played 14 games with three starts and tallied 19 tackles and three passes defended in 2022. Matthew has ties to the Cowboys as he played for defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus when he was on the Chicago Bears roster in 2023. Eberflus was the Bears’ head coach at that time.

The injury news on Carson comes after Cowboys offensive lineman Tyler Guyton suffered a knee injury during practice on Monday. It was reported that Guyton suffered a bone fracture, and he could be out for at least one to two months.
