Carolina Panthers name starting QB between Bryce Young, Andy Dalton for Germany game vs. Giants

The Carolina Panthers have decided on if Bryce Young or Andy Dalton will start on Sunday against the New York Giants. Panthers head coach Dave Canales announced on Wednesday that Young will start in the game that will be played in Germany.
The announcement comes after Young led the Panthers to a 23-22 victory over the New Orleans Saints this past Sunday. In the game, the former Alabama Crimson Tide star completed 16 of 26 passes for 171 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Young took over for Dalton in Week 8 after Dalton was involved in a minor car accident where he suffered a thumb injury. Dalton practiced all last week, but it looks like the Panthers beleive Young can get the team back on track after beating the Saints.
“I thought it was great just Bryce being out there playing more football, you know, taking some steps,” Canales said on Monday, per the team’s official website. “I know that being out there with that group of receivers, and just getting the chemistry of how guys are going to respond with different coverages, different leverages, to see the guys that can make plays for him and for Bryce to take advantage of some of those opportunities.”

Andy Dalton talks about relationship with Bryce Young
Young was selected No. 1 overall by the Panthers in last year’s draft and won just two games in 16 starts in 2023. After losing the first two games this season, Canales benched Young for Dalton so he could learn from a veteran who has played at a high level.
“I’ve said that every week, every time that anybody asked me about how it’s been. He’s handled this whole situation really well, and I’m so thankful for it,” Dalton said before the game against the Broncos. “I’m so thankful for our friendship and what we’ve been able to build.
“There’s things that I can lean on him for. There’s things that he can lean on me for throughout the whole process of it. And it’s definitely grown us closer, which I think a lot of situations – people have been in this similar situation, and it brings people apart, but for us, it definitely made us closer.”
