Carolina Panthers make 53-man roster official at NFL deadline

The Carolina Panthers finalized cuts to the roster on Tuesday, settling the official 53-man ahead of the NFL’s deadline at 4 p.m. ET.

In the past, teams had multiple deadlines to reduce the roster during the preseason but the rules changed for the 2023 season and now, there’s only one deadline.

Having cut relatively few players leading up to Aug. 29, the Panthers had a lot of unfortunate calls to make over the last couple of days.

However, with the roster deadline passed, the team can now make some happier calls. They can designate an additional 16 players for the practice squad.

Here’s how the Panthers’ 53-man roster looks ahead of the first game of the 2023 season, which is a road game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Panthers Offense

Quarterback: Bryce Young, Andy Dalton, Matt Corral

Running Back: Miles Sanders, Chuba Hubbard, Raheem Blackshear

Wide Receiver: Adam Thielen, DJ Chark Jr., Jonathan Mingo, Terrace Marshall Jr., Laviska Shenault, Derek Wright, Ihmir Smith-Marsette

Tight End: Hayden Hurst, Tommy Tremble, Ian Thomas, Giovanni Ricci, Stephen Sullivan

Offensive Line: Ikem Ekwonu, Taylor Moton, Ricky Lee, Bradley Bozeman, Brady Christensen, Austin Corbett (PUP), Cade Mays, Cameron Erving, Chandler Zavala, Nash Jensen

Defense

Panthers waive 11 ahead of deadline

Ahead of the NFL’s deadline, the Panthers waived quarterback Jake Luton, running back Camerun Peoples, and wide receivers Gary Jennings and CJ Saunders.

Tackle Larnel Coleman, defensive lineman Antwuan Jackson and linebacker Bumper Pool also were waived. So were safeties Collin Duncan and Josh Thomas, cornerback Rejzohn Wright and kicker Matthew Wright.

Each NFL team can have a practice squad of up to 16 players. These guys earn $35,000 a week and have the opportunity to gain promotion to the active roster throughout the season..
