The Carolina Panthers added some experience to their secondary on Sunday, agreeing to terms with former Los Angeles Rams cornerback Troy Hill on Sunday according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.

The 31-year-old Hill appeared in and started in 12 games last season for the Rams in his second stint with the organization recording 67 tackles, defending four passes, and securing one interception.

He now becomes the eldest veteran of the Panthers’ secondary, surpassing Donte Jackson, and joins a unit that finished in the bottom half of the league last season in passing yards allowed averaging 227.5 yards per game to opponents.

Hill spent five seasons with the Rams prior to a one-year hiatus with the Cleveland Browns, making him more than familiar with new Panthers’ defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, cornerbacks coach Jonathan Cooley, and the team’s new defensive system as a whole.

He was rated a three-star prospect out of high school according to On3’s Industry Ranking, earning Second-team Pac-12 All-Conference honors at Oregon before being signed by the Cincinnati Bengals following the 2015 NFL Draft. Hill was waived by the Bengals and the New England Patriots in 2015 before joining the Rams where he’d truly stick.

Hill started 39 games for the Rams between 2016-2020, having a career year in 2020 where he recorded a career-high 77 tackles and 10 pass breakups. He also led the league in defensive touchdowns in 2022 after returning two of his three interceptions for touchdowns and taking one of his two fumble recoveries to the house as well.

In his eight-year NFL career Hill has recorded 334 tackles, deflected 34 passes, and snagged eight interceptions, and could provide some valuable production and experience to the Carolina Panthers’ backend this season.

Bryce Young candid about need for improved execution after second preseason game

Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young had a chance to start his second preseason game on Friday night, doing so in a game against the New York Giants.

Things were a bit of a struggle for Young working behind a somewhat shaky offensive line. The Panthers’ starting offense scored just three points and Young was kept without a touchdown for the second straight game.

Still, he was encouraged overall.

“It’s always great when I get an opportunity to play with my guys and come out and compete,” Bryce Young said on the FOX broadcast. “It was good. I think there’s ups and downs. Once we watch the tape I’ll be able to learn from a lot of stuff and we’ll be able to learn from a lot of stuff. Right now we’re still in the game, still watching, but once we watch the film there will be a lot to grow from.”
