Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is “unlikely” to play against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Lamb suffered a high ankle sprain in the Cowboys’ 31-14 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

He will be re-evaluated in 10 to 14 days, per Schefter. Lamb suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Cowboys’ loss, when Bears linebacker Noah Sewell fell on his lower leg while attempting to make a tackle.

Lamb boasts 16 catches for a team-high 222 yards this season. He didn’t record any receptions before leaving the game on Sunday.

David J. Chao, a former team doctor with the Los Angeles Chargers, broke Lamb’s injury based on video. He initially considered the injury to be a “milder” ankle sprain.

“It was an eversion type where the ankle’s turned out,” Chao said. “It’s a milder form of a high ankle sprain. We thought he would try and get taped and return.

“He did get taped and return, but his return was very, very short-lived and he is done for the day. The only good news out of this is this is not a long-term injury. Next week isn’t guaranteed, but not anticipating injured reserve for CeeDee Lamb.”

Chao’s analysis appears to have been off. Lamb is expected to miss 3-4 weeks due to his injury, per Todd Archer. It would be a massive loss for the Cowboys.

Lamb is a three-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler. He’s racked up over 1,000 receiving yards the past four seasons. In 2023, he was the NFL’s receptions leader. In August 2024, Lamb signed a four-year, $136 million deal with the Cowboys. The new deal included $100 million guaranteed.

If Lamb is unable to play, fellow wide receiver George Pickens could receive a surplus of targets. The Pittsburgh Steelers traded Pickens to the Cowboys this offseason, in exchange two draft picks.

Pickens has had a solid debut campaign with the Cowboys thus far. He has 13 catches for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Tight end Jake Ferguson has also had a strong start to the season, notching 183 receiving yards through three games.

Sitting at 1-2, the Cowboys will be hungry for a win against the Packers on Sunday. The two NFC teams will face off at 7:20 p.m. CDT on Sunday. The game will air live on NBC.
