Dallas Cowbys receiver CeeDee Lamb exited Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears with an apparent ankle injury. Lamb was taken to the injury tent where his left ankle was evaluated and trainers retaped it.

The injury occurred in the first quarter after Lamb rolled his ankle while being tackled by Bears linebacker Noah Sewell. FOX sideline reporter Erin Andrews revealed that he is questionable to return.

“He’s not out there on the field,” Andrews said. “Kind of walking along here on the sideline. He’s got his helmet on his hands. We did see him go into the tent. Cowboys are saying he’s questionable to return obviously with an ankle injury. Good amount of tape on that ankle.”

Lamb made his return to the game on the next drive. Unfortunately, however, it would be short-lived.

The receiver stayed in for his one play but came off the field limping again after running a route. He took is helmet off on the sidelines and was later ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Lamb is the Cowboys’ No. 1 receiver and had 16 catches for 222 yards through the first two games of this season. Tight end Jake Ferguson stepped up in his absence to lead the team in receiving on Sunday while receiver George Pickens and Kavontae Turpin also saw increased roles.

Lamb has recorded at least 1,000 yards receiving in each of the past four seasons and looked well on his way to similar numbers this year. Hopefully the injury won’t keep him out too long and he should still be on pace to get there if that is the case.

Former NFL doctor gives prognosis, potential timeline for CeeDee Lamb

David J. Chao, a former team doctor with the Chargers, broke down the type of injury Lamb suffered. He added that he considers it a “milder” ankle sprain and doesn’t anticipate the receiver being kept out long.

“It was an eversion type where the ankle’s turned out,” Chao said. “It’s a milder form of a high ankle sprain. We thought he would try and get taped and return. He did get taped and return, but his return was very, very short-lived and he is done for the day. The only good news out of this is this is not a long-term injury. Next week isn’t guaranteed, but not anticipating injured reserve for CeeDee Lamb.”

The effect was certainly felt without Lamb on the field Sunday as Dallas suffered a 31-14 loss to fall to 1-2 on the young season. Next up for the Cowboys is a matchup against the Green Bay Packers and former Dallas linebacker Micah Parsons at 8:20 p.m. ET next Sunday. There should be a lot of motivation for Lamb to play against his former teammate in that game and we’ll wait and see how it plays out.
