Following a loss to the Chicago Bears, the Dallas Cowboys might have some good news. It comes in the form of an injury update for star receiver CeeDee Lamb.

After the game, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said team doctors told him Lamb’s ankle injury was “not as serious as it could have been,” according to reporter Jon Machota of The Athletic. Then Jones personally commented on the injury.

“Let’s just keep our fingers crossed,” Jones said. Worth noting? Lamb seemed to be moving relatively well on the sidelines in the second half.

Lamb also commented on the injury in the locker room after the game, noting he “absolutely” feels like he can play next week. Nick Harris of the Star Telegram reported the news.

“This was one of those protect me from myself type of deals,” Lamb said. In other words, the Cowboys just didn’t want to risk further injury.

CeeDee Lamb was forced to leave Sunday after rolling his left ankle against the Bears. But at least one medical expert doesn’t believe the injury to be long term.

David J. Chao, a former team doctor with the Chargers, broke down the type of injury Lamb suffered. He added that he considers it a “milder” ankle sprain and doesn’t anticipate the receiver being kept out long.

“It was an eversion type where the ankle’s turned out,” Chao said. “It’s a milder form of a high ankle sprain. We thought he would try and get taped and return. He did get taped and return, but his return was very, very short-lived and he is done for the day. The only good news out of this is this is not a long-term injury. Next week isn’t guaranteed, but not anticipating injured reserve for CeeDee Lamb.”

The injury occurred in the first quarter after Lamb rolled his ankle while being tackled by Bears linebacker Noah Sewell. Lamb later returned to the game for one play but came off the field limping after running a route.

FOX sideline reporter Erin Andrews later revealed that Lamb was out for the rest of the game. However, the assessment from Chao and the update from Jones is very positive.

CeeDee Lamb is the Cowboys’ No. 1 receiver and had 16 catches for 222 yards through the first two games of this season. Tight end Jake Ferguson stepped up in his absence to lead the team in receiving on Sunday while receiver George Pickens and Kavontae Turpin also saw increased roles.
