Chargers WR Ladd McConkey throws hat in the ring for 2028 US Olympic flag football team

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey is more than ready to compete in flag football in the 2028 Summer Olympics. While appearing on The Schultz Report with NFL insider Jordan Schultz, McKonkey was asked if he wanted to compete for Team USA in the next Olympics, which will be held in LA.
“Bring it on. I’m ready for it,” Ladd McConkey said. “Sign me up. If I have a chance to go compete for the country, win a gold medal, come on. Who would turn that down?”
And when Schultz mentioned the 2028 Olympics will be in LA, McConkey replied, “Who better else to get it then? Come on. Come get me.”
There’s still some time before the Team USA flag football roster can be finalized, but it’s no surprise that McConkey wants to be on the team since this will be the first time flag football will be in the Olympics.

Ladd McConkey would have fun at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics
NFL players will be eligible to play in the Olympics after team owners unanimously approved a proposal earlier this year. “It’s an incredible honor for any athlete to represent their country in the Olympics, which is the pinnacle of global sport,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement, per ESPN. “I know firsthand that the inclusion of flag football in the Olympics has sparked a tremendous amount of excitement among NFL players interested in the chance to compete for their country on the world stage. We are thrilled that they will now have that chance.”
The Los Angeles Summer Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 14, 2028, to July 30, 2028. NFL teams start training camp at the end of July, so it’s likely that NFL players who will participate in the Olympics won’t miss any training camp practices.
If McConkey does compete in the Olympics, he will be a problem for opposing defenses. Through 11 games this season, the former Georgia Bulldogs star has caught 54 passes for 644 yards and nine touchdowns. He’s coming off a strong rookie season in 2024, catching 82 passes for 1,149 yards and seven TDs.
