Charles Barkley took shots at the Dallas Cowboys and ESPN on the latest edition of Inside the NBA. On ESPN’s NBA pregame show, Barkley spoke about the Cowboys, since he has not talked about them since joining ESPN.

Barkley said ESPN is “contractually obligated to talk about the Cowboys every day, even though their defense can’t stop a bloody nose.” That led to Shaquille O’Neal telling Barkley not to talk about the Cowboys like that since they are his team.

“Stop people from scoring,” Charles Barkley stated. Don’t trade your best defensive player, then whine about can’t stop anybody.” Barkley was referring to the Cowboys trading edge rusher Micah Parsons before the start of the season. Currently, the Cowboys are ranked 31st in the NFL in scoring defense, averaging 31.3 points allowed through eight games. Along with that, the Cowboys rank 31st in pass defense (258.6 yards per game) and 29th in rush defense (146 yards).

Can the Dallas Cowboys fix their defense?

After the Cowboys’ 44-24 loss to the Denver Broncos this past weekend, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said changes are coming to the defense. “There’s always reasons to change, and there will be change,” he said on Monday, per Kevin Patra of NFL.com. “I can promise you that. I can show you that. We’ve already had meetings, and we’ve talked about those changes. We’re in the mode right now of where we’ve got kind of a one-game season.”

Cowboys defensive lineman Osa Odigizuwa admitted that he needs to be better. “Myself personally, I’m not playing my best ball right now,” Odighizuwa said, per Tommy Yarrish of DallasCowboys.com. “I’m definitely looking at myself, seeing if I can use my hands a little bit better in the run game, just working on my technique and seeing if I can clean that up. Just trying to polish that and make sure that I’m taking the steps to, when I look at myself on tape, I’m doing everything that I can to help the other 10 guys that are out there on the field.”

Parsons was sent to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for two first-round draft picks and defensive lineman Kenny Clark. Through seven games this year, Parsons has recorded 17 tackles, six tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. Parsons has helped the Packers have a 5-1-1 record, which is the best in the NFC.
