Report: Charlotte Hornets agree with Tre Mann on three-year, $24 million deal

One day after the Charlotte Hornets opted not to make a qualifying offer to fourth-year point guard Tre Mann, the organization reportedly reached a deal with him. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Mann and the Hornets have agreed on a three-year, $24 million deal.

That is north of the roughly $6.9 million qualifying offer the franchise would have had to make for Mann. It’s a sign the organization believes strongly in the 24-year-old guard.

When healthy, Tre Mann has been a solid scoring option off the bench. A herniated disc sidelined him for the majority of the 2024-25 season, requiring surgery. Before that, though, he had emerged as a very capable option for the Hornets, who were desperately lacking them.

Tre Mann played in 13 games this season, coming off the bench in all of them. He averaged a career-high 14.1 points, 3.0 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game. He shot a career-best 40.0% from 3-point range, on decent volume (60 attempts).

That kind of ability could earn him a look from any number of teams this offseason. The former Florida standout has gotten better throughout his career after initially beginning it with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Mann spent the first three years of his career with Oklahoma City before joining Charlotte. He appeared in 127 games in his first two seasons, seeing a strong usage rate that included 31 starts.

But his playing time has not been consistent since then. Tre Mann has appeared in 30 or more games in a season just once in the last four years. He has twice started 28 games in a season, though, proving he can handle things at a high level on a night-in, night-out basis.

Before he went to the NBA, Tre Mann was a two-year star at Florida. He started just four games as a freshman before becoming a full-time starter as a sophomore.

He averaged 16.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game as a second-year player during the 2020-21 season. However, his college career was thoroughly disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
