Chase Briscoe overcomes early pit road penalty to win
You have to credit Chase Briscoe and the 19 team for not panicking in the first stage. They were hit with a pit road penalty and were almost stuck a lap down to the field as a result. It was a tricky situation that the team had to overcome in order to win this race.
It took away Briscoe’s chances of winning stage points. Not that he needed them, but they are always nice to have at times like this. Briscoe would bounce back and be in the mix for the rest of the race, though. He had a speedy Toyota Camry and made his way to the front multiple times.
The big wreck today involved Chase Elliott and AJ Allmendinger, as well as others. It was a scary moment for Allmendinger, who had to escape his car after it caught on fire. A huge hit to Elliott in the points, and he is going to be in a must-win situation at Martinsville.
Team Penske did not have the day they needed to improve their position in the standings much. So, Logano and Blaney also need a win. Something isn’t adding up here, as there are only two more spots in the Championship 4, and all four drivers below the cutline, William Byron included, have to go out and race for a win.
Chase Briscoe just had the biggest win of his life. When the opportunity to take the bottom opened up, he took it. From there, it was all white knuckles and hope to the finish line. Is the 19 team the favorite to win the championship now? Briscoe won at Phoenix in 2022 at Stewart-Haas. Surely he can win in a JGR car, right?
