Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is back in the lineup after being out for nearly two months. The team announced that Godwin is active for the Sunday Night Football game against the Los Angeles Rams.

On Saturday night, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Chris Godwin was expected to play after being listed as questionable due to his fibula injury. Godwin has not played since Oct. 5, when the Buccaneers defeated the Seattle Seahawks.

The Bucs will be happy to see Godwin back since he has only played in two games this year. On Friday, head coach Todd Bowles said the veteran wide receiver is “definitely trending towards playing” against the Rams.

“He’s extremely smart, number one,” said Bowles of Godwin, per Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com. “He’s great in the run game and the pass game. He’s a heck of a blocker, and he’s a heck of a receiver and has great hands and is reliable. He’s one of those guys [who] once Baker starts to scramble that knows how to get open, and then he finds him and he trusts him. So he brings an added element for us.”

Chris Godwin suffered a season-ending injury last year

Staying healthy has been an issue for Godwin for the last two seasons. In the Bucs’ Week 7 game last season, Godwin suffered an ankle injury and missed the remainder of the season. At the time of his injury, Godwin led all NFL players in receptions and had five touchdowns in seven games. His last full season was in 2023, and he caught 83 passes for 1,024 yards and two touchdowns.

During the offseason, Godwin signed a three-year, $66 million contract extension with the Buccaneers. “It really does mean the world to me because I feel like things like this, they don’t just happen,” Godwin said after signing his contract in March. “For a guy to have gone through what I’ve been through, and like you said, in two contract years, and be able to get a deal done with the team that they’re on, I think, is very, very rare. It speaks to the type of person that I am, to their trust in me, to their belief in me, and that I’ll put the work in to not only be the player that I was, but to be better, and I take that very, very seriously.”
