On Thursday, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Christian Matthew was carted off the field after suffering an injury, per Dallas Morning News‘ Joseph Hoyt. Matthew is entering his first season with the organization.

Since being drafted in 2022, Christian Matthew has played for the Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens and Cowboys. Matthew reportedly returned to the field shortly after being carted off it and began practicing again.

Cowboys fans can only hope the initial scare was a false alarm. After all, the team can’t afford to suffer any more injuries.

On Tuesday, quarterback Joe Milton left the Cowboys’ practice after suffering a hand injury. Milton reportedly hit his hand on a defender’s helmet. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer referred to the decision to pull Milton from the practice as a “precautionary measure.”

At the beginning of training camp, Cowboys offensive lineman Tyler Guyton suffered a bone fracture, which will require surgery. He is expected to be out for four to six weeks, but his ACL is intact. Despite the setbacks, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been happy with first-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

“I’m seeing in Brian a tremendously seasoned and experience coach that’s had years and years of two a day practices like we’re experiencing here that have actually been a part of many, many teams, yet this is his first time to ever step out here and be a head coach,” Jones said. “I love the dynamic that goes on when you haven’t done it, you want to prove it, yet we’re getting to do it with a guy that’s spent 30 years getting ready to do this thing.”

Micah Parsons contract negotiations continue

Of course, Jones would be much happier if the team signed star EDGE Micah Parsons. The former Penn State standout requested a trade last week after growing frustrated with the Cowboys’ approach to his contract.

Parsons has been attending training camp, in order to avoid NFL fines. Parson said he met with Jones in March to discuss leadership. However, the conversation turned toward Parsons’ contract. Parsons engaged in the conversation but said he never believed it to be a formal negotiation. Jones disagrees.

“I bought the Cowboys with a handshake,” Jones said. “It took about 30 seconds. I gave the number, shook hands, the details we worked out later. As a matter of fact, one of the details involved a lot of money, and we had to flip a coin over that, but the fundamental I’m buying and you’re gonna sell it to me for that range, that’s done. Those are done with eye contact and handshakes.”
