Christian McCaffrey added to injury report, Carolina Panthers sign running back for depth

Star running back for the Carolina Panthers, Christian McCaffrey, has been added to the team’s injury report. This comes following his first 100-yard rushing performance since 2019. He was previously absent from the injury report ahead of that game against the New York Giants.
Christian McCaffrey has been dealing with stiffness in his ankle, which is what landed him on the injury report. However, he is still expected to play on Sunday, according to Darin Gantt.
After not practicing at all on Wednesday, which is normal for Christian McCaffrey, he was limited in practice on Thursday. This was described as a precautionary measure.

After adding Christian McCaffrey to the injury report, the Carolina Panthers signed a new running back to the roster. They signed former Virginia Tech running back Raheem Blackshear off the Buffalo Bills practice squad. He will give them depth at running back and fill in the final roster spot on their 53-man roster.

A rookie, Blackshear is expected to give Carolina depth following Andre Roberts being placed on injured reserve. However, if Christian McCaffrey is also banged up, then he may be limited and force Carolina to dip deeper down its depth chart.
Raheem Blackshear, along with running the ball, is also a capable kick returner.
After starting the season 0-2, Carolina’s next game is going to be important to turn their season around. They host division rival, the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
