If you haven’t heard of 29-year-old Cole Butcher yet, you are going to hear more and more about him in the coming months. Butcher has been on a heck of a run in the last few years. He just won the Florida Governor’s Cup and claimed the ASA Southern Super Series title.

Cole Butcher, from Porters Lake, Nova Scotia, has racked up a few big wins in recent years. He has won the Winchester 400, Redbud 400 twice, and Oxford 250 twice since 2022. This year, he has been fantastic in the ASA STARS ranks. He’s won a bunch of races this year, and today was a nice cap on all of that.

This Southern Super Series title and Governor’s Cup win are just the cherry on top of a championship season for Butcher. He had already won the National Tour championship earlier this month. A great win for Butcher.

The ASA Stars National Tour and its other associated series have been producing great racing for years. Now, they seem to be providing a ladder to the NASCAR ranks. Another NASCAR driver, Dawson Sutton, has spent a lot of time in the series, honing his craft.

While the CARS Tour receives a lot of attention for being located in the Carolinas and near the heart of NASCAR, ASA is putting on great races in the Midwest and the South. Sammy Smith and Ty Majeski have raced quite a bit with ASA.

Cole Butcher should get more NASCAR chances

This season, Cole Butcher got two starts with Halmar-Friesen Racing. He took on Bristol and the Phoenix championship race. Unfortunately, both races involved issues. Butcher was P23 at Bristol while two laps down. At Phoenix, he was a P23 DNF due to a late wreck that almost changed the entire championship and race.

I don’t think that Butcher has had a chance to really show what he is made of. Back in 2023, he made select starts in the CARS Tour Pro Late Model ranks. He finished P4 or better in five races, including a win at Hickory. He has shown that he can win at multiple levels and in different cars. Hopefully, the Canadian is afforded more chances in 2026 to show what he is made of.

While Cole Butcher is older, he is still a prospect worth checking out. With varying success stories recently like Josh Berry, Carson Kvapil, Kaden Honeycutt, and Brenden Queen, why not take a shot on a grassroots driver who might not be 16, 17, or 18 years old but has experience racing a full season and taking care of equipment?
