Colin Cowherd fires back at Micah Parsons, says he is not 'versatile' player

The Green Bay Packers have a top five defense in the NFL. Green Bay, who made a splash move in the offseason by acquiring star edge rusher Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys, have held opponents to 18 points or less in six of its nine games.

FS1 host Colin Cowherd, however, hasn’t been impressed by Parsons’ overall output with the Packers and voiced that on his show Tuesday. After Green Bay’s 10-7 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, in which Parsons tallied just two tackles and the team allowed just 3.3 yards per carry, Cowherd called out Parsons for not being a good run defender: “Micah’s rep has always been, he is a splash player. A remarkable, athletic splash player. He’s not good against the run.”

That prompted this response from Parsons on social media: “We just held Saquon Barkley to 60 rushing yards, and our only losses have been holding teams to 13 points,” Micah Parsons said. “Man, sometimes can y’all? Please stfu and enjoy great defense! Why do you think teams come into the games that were going to run the ball on 3rd and long? What effect do you think that is? Please stop giving people’s mics or listening to trash!”

Well, Cowherd fired back at Parsons on Wednesday’s show. He pushed back on Parsons saying they shut down the Eagles’ rushing attack, citing their inability to run the ball all season. Cowherd then said that Parsons is not a “versatile” pass rusher like other highly paid players around the league, comparing him to another talented player who was traded in his prime.

Colin Cowherd continues back and forth with Micah Parsons

“Micah is essentially Tyreek Hill. For the record, both traded in their prime,” Cowherd said. “Tyreek Hill’s never been a great blocker, he doesn’t run great routes, but he’ll probably make the Hall of Fame because man, he is great with the deep ball. But Andy Reid moved off him. Brett Veach, arguably the second-best GM in the league, moved off him. They moved off him in his prime, and the Cowboys moved off Micah in his prime.

“Cleveland’s not moving off Myles Garrett, Raiders aren’t moving off Maxx Crosby, Steelers aren’t moving off TJ Watt. Why, because those are versatile edge rushers. Micah’s not. In his run with the Dallas Cowboys, they were 23rd against the run. They got sacks, they got pressure — they were 23rd against the run.”

The stats show that Parsons has 22 tackles, seven tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks this season. Parsons is third in the league with 50 pressures, while the Packers have the sixth best rushing defense.

Most of, if not all, the Packers’ issues this season have been on offense. Green Bay is 5-3-1, and all of its losses have come in games where the defense has allowed 16 or fewer points.
