Terry McLaurin was candid regarding a potential extension with the Washington Commanders ahead of the 2025 NFL season. It’s evident that if he doesn’t receive a deal from the franchise, a holdout might be next.

“Without any progressive discussions, I don’t see how I step on the field,” McLaurin stated, regarding his current situation with the Commanders, per FOX’s Jordan Schultz. It certainly sounds like the two sides aren’t on the same page at the moment.

McLaurin continued to hammer home his annoyance while speaking with Washington’s 106.7 The Fan: “I’ve been pretty frustrated, not going to lie,” the wide receiver stated, regarding contract talks. “Everything that has transpired has been pretty disappointing.

“I want to continue my career here, I’ve created my life here, so I want to be here. Just to see how things have played out has been disappointing. … I’m trying to take things day by day. I thought things would be more progressive than they have, and I know those discussions were there at the beginning, but since OTAs, we haven’t had any discussions. At this point, it’s up in the air.”

Additionally, McLaurin revealed that negotiations haven’t taken place in weeks, and that doesn’t sit well with him: “There has to be some active discussions,” he added. “We haven’t talked in a month, and it’s becoming crunch time. You want to be in a position to be building towards what we did last year on the field, so this is definitely disappointing. I don’t know what happens next.”

Over the course of his career, McLaurin has been an incredible find for Washington. He’s evolved into one of the better wide receivers in the entire league, amassing 6,379 yards and 38 touchdowns in six seasons. He set a new career-high with 13 touchdowns last season.

Still, McLaurin has watched as other wide receiver have been paid, like Garrett Wilson of the New York Jets. He has immense respect for his peers, but he believes it’s time for him to get an extension, as well.

“Garrett Wilson deserves what he was paid. I know I’m biased being a Buckeye, but he brings a lot to his team, and they compensated as such. I can’t speculate on how that affects me, but the top WR are compensated in today’s NFL, and I feel I’m a WR1,” McLaurin explained. “… “If they don’t feel I’m part of their future, that’s fine, just tell me that. I’m an adult and can handle hard truths.”

Time will tell what the future holds for Terry McLaurin, and whether or not it’s with Washington. After such a promising season in 2024, losing their star wide receiver would be a hard pill to swallow for the Commanders.
