Connor Zilisch reacts to win streak ending, finishing P5 at Bristol Xfinity Series race

Tonight was the end of Connor Zilisch’s win streak in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He did extend his top-five streak, though. Still, Zilisch couldn’t help but be a little disappointed with the result after he led almost 100 laps tonight.
Aric Almirola gambled on old tires, and it paid off. Connor Zilisch took tires late in the race after a caution, and just didn’t have the time in the race to make up the deficit.
After, Zilisch lamented his P5 finish. 15 straight top-five finishes, which ties the series record. I have a feeling that record isn’t going to last.
“Yeah, we’re sitting in a pretty good spot,” Zilisch said on The CW. “It’s tough at the end of those races to make the right decision. You know, whatever you do, they’re going to do the opposite of you. I just wish that caution hadn’t come out in the first place. Yeah, our WeatherTech Chevrolet was as fast as Xfinity Mobile all night. We put ourselves in a good position and had a chance at it, but not tonight.”
Connor Zilisch even tweeted after the race. He knows how great his team has been doing. Now, he expects nothing less than perfection and wins. Can you blame him?
“Having to remind myself that it’s a good thing I’m upset about finishing 5th,” Zilisch posted. He’s not wrong, either.
You could tell that Zilisch was not happy after the race. He wants to win every race now. Tonight, he could have won at Bristol. Those cautions at the end complicated the math for crew chief Mardy Lindley.

Connor Zilisch expects to win every race
Going to Kansas, I wouldn’t bet against Connor Zilisch. He felt as if he should have won this race and didn’t. Now, he has to go out and restart his win streak. You could even argue that he might be racing a bit mad after a loss like tonight.
The skill we have seen from Zilisch this season is remarkable. He has learned so quickly in the Xfinity Series and has dominated the second half of the season. Kansas is going to be a race that I think Zilisch can win fairly easily if he has the car to do it.
The Roval is going to be right around the corner. There are other tracks on the schedule that Zilisch will be contending for the win. There is a possibility that Zilisch could win two, three, or four more races this year.
Connor Zilisch came up short today. Could that be the worst thing that could have happened for the rest of the field? How long until Zilisch finds his way back to Victory Lane?
