Connor Zilisch wins Mexico City pole, full Xfinity Series qualifying results

Who else but Connor Zilisch? The 18-year-old picks up his fourth pole of the season, this time at Mexico City. An absolutely quick lap on a track he’s never been on before. Zilisch outlasted Ty Gibbs. This time, Red Bull takes down Monster Energy in NASCAR.
Connor Zilisch is the definite favorite for the race today. However, Ty Gibbs is going to push him to his limits. Christopher Bell and Daniel Suárez are two other Cup Series drivers in the field who will try and take Zilisch down today.
There could be a lot of restarts. Drivers in Cup and Xfinity have had troubles on the track. Turn 4 is hard on these cars. The braking zones are going to be where a driver makes or breaks their race today.
Connor Zilisch has shown pure speed in qualifying this season. Yes, he has two pole awards on road courses, and we expect that from him. However, Zilisch has two poles on ovals this season as well. He only gets better with every week that passes by.
Here are the full qualifying results for the Xfinity Series race. It’s going to be a good one in Mexico City.
Daniel Suárez did not make a qualifying lap. He wrecked during his opening lap in Turn 11 after a brake issue. Good thing those extra provisional spots were added to the field, there will be 39 cars starting the race today.
Andrés Pérez de Lara is making his Xfinity Series debut for DGM Racing. He is a hometown kid from Mexico City. The 20-year-old qualified P16 and is hoping to have a career day in front of his family, friends, and fans in Mexico. Pérez is the 2024 ARCA Menards Series champion and runs full-time for Spire Motorsports in the Truck Series.

Connor Zilisch on pole for Mexico City
I will never count Ty Gibbs out when it comes to a road course race in the Xfinity Series. However, we have seen Connor Zilisch battle and outduel Cup Series drivers on these road courses in the past. His win at Watkins Glen was perhaps his most impressive performance, which came in his Xfinity Series debut.
He took down Shane van Gisbergen, Ross Chastain, AJ Allmendinger, Joey Logano, William Byron, and Ty Gibbs in that race. A lot of Cup Series talent and serious road course skills among those drivers.
If someone else wants to win this race, they have to go through the 88 Chevy first. I do think there could be issues with multiple restarts. Drivers were having fits getting around the track without blowing through corners or locking up brakes, or at times, slamming into the barriers.
Today is going to be another fantastic NASCAR Xfinity Series race. I can just feel it. The altitude is going to make these brakes and engines work harder than ever before. If Connor Zilisch stays out of trouble and takes care of his car, this is his race to lose.
