Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer gave his quarterback, Dak Prescott, a ton of praise after the team’s win over the New York Jets on Sunday. While speaking to reporters, Schottenheimer was asked about Prescott, who led the Cowboys to a 37-22 victory over the Jets.

“I think we’re spoiled. I think he’s one of the best players in the league,” Brian Schottenheimer said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “He’s playing with a ton of confidence.”

Dak Prescott completed 18 of his 29 passes for 237 yards and four touchdowns on Sunday. He also rushed for 28 yards on seven carries to help the Cowboys improve their record to 2-2-1 on the year.

Entering Sunday’s game, Prescott was playing at an elite level. Through four games, the former Mississippi State star completed 72.9 percent of his passes for 1,119 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Dak Prescott had the ‘right energy’ against the Jets

Sunday was the third time Prescott has faced the Jets in his career. Before the game, the 10-year veteran quarterback talked about the last time facing the Jets was in 2019, when the Cowboys fell to the AFC East squad that was looking for their first victory.

“I know that was the team also that, I believe, was winless when we went up there, somewhat earlier in the season, as well,” he said, per Patrick Walker of DallasCowboys.com. “It’s important for me to relay to these guys just how important it is for us to go get this game, and how important it is not to look at the records, and to understand that every other team wants to beat us. Every other team is gonna find a way to hype themselves up a little bit more, because it’s the Cowboys. We’ve got to make sure we go out there with the right energy, and start fast, and in all three aspects of the game.”

The way that Prescott is playing right now, he’s becoming an early candidate to win the MVP award. But with him missing half of the 2024 season due to a hamstring injury, Prescott is also making a case to win the Comeback Player of the Year award if he continues to play at a high level.
