Cowboys trade deadline: Jerry Jones gives surprising update on team's plans
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hinted at some potential moves for his team ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline. The Cowboys dropped their third straight game by a score of 27-21 to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday to fall to 3-5 on the season.
Speaking with reporters postgame, Jones revealed that he “has some things in the mix” as far as trades go. He also made sure to let everyone know that he has yet to give up on Dallas’ season.
“We’ll probably do a couple things this week,” Jones said according to Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I’m a long way from being dismayed about this team this year.”
The Cowboys saw starting quarterback Dak Prescott leave the game with a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter. He would not return as Cooper Rush finished things out in his place, throwing for 115 yards and a touchdown.
It remains unclear after the game whether Prescott will be forced to miss any additional time because of the injury. The QB told reporters postgame that he wanted to continue playing but the medical staff told him he would not be able to protect himself from making the injury worse.

Even if Prescott is able to make a return next week, it’s clear that the Cowboys will need some help if they hope to reach the postseason. It will be interesting to see what kind of moves they make and if it will ultimately be successful in improving the team.
Running back is one potential position Dallas could look to make a trade for. They currently rank dead last in the NFL with 74.1 rushing yards per game and Prescott could certainly use some help to make the offense less one-dimensional.
The Cowboys have until 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday to finalize a trade before the deadline passes.
Dallas has made the playoffs in each of the past three seasons but is trending toward watching from home this year if something doesn’t change soon. They’ll look to get back on track in Week 10 when they face the Eagles at 3:25 p.m. CT next Sunday.
