As the Dallas Cowboys passing attack continues to flourish, another weapon is set to join the active roster. Wide receiver Jonathan Mingo could make his NFL debut on Sunday against the Denver Broncos. And weirdly enough, when he takes the field, it will be the first time Mingo has played with quarterback Dak Prescott.

“I feel great,” Mingo said Monday via The Athletic‘s Jon Machota. “I’m excited. Been waiting. First time I get a chance to play with Dak. I got traded last year, he was hurt. (Then) I missed 7 games this year, so I’m finally happy to go out there and play with him. We had a good connection in camp.”

Mingo arrived in Dallas early November last season. But Prescott already went down for the year due to an injury, meaning Cooper Rush and Trey Lance were the ones throwing passes to the former Carolina Panther. And fast forwarding to the present, Mingo was the one hurt while Prescott regained his form in a big way.

In eight games played with the Cowboys, Mingo has just five receptions to his name on 16 targets. Those went for 46 yards. Mingo continues to search for his first touchdown in a Dallas uniform. And with the pace at which Prescott throws touchdowns, it might come sooner rather than later. Maybe another connection quickly built in game scenarios, beginning Sunday vs. Denver.

Wide receiver becoming deep position room for Dallas Cowboys

Not too long ago, wide receiver was a major question for the Cowboys. CeeDee Lamb clearly presented himself as one of the best players in the NFL, regardless of position. But outside of him, there was not much of a threat for Prescott.

Trading for George Pickens instantly changed things. His connection with Prescott gets put on display on nearly a weekly basis at this point. Another big performance popped up vs. the Washington Commanders, even with Lamb back on the field.

Jalen Tolbert saw his role grow under head coach Brian Schottenheimer and took advantage of the opportunity. Even someone like Ryan Flournoy found success in recent weeks. From top to bottom, the wide receivers are playing quite well in Dallas.

Adding Mingo gives them another body who has the potential to produce. The Cowboys invested some draft capital in trading for him, hoping the move pays off in a big way throughout the closing months of the season.
