Everybody is excited the 2024 NFL season is back. And we got our first taste of Sunday Night Football tonight, with Cris Collinsworth and Mike Tirico being on the broadcast for NBC. Collinsworth is well-known for his history of getting overly excited or overzealous about certain players or plays over the years.

And we got another great example of that on Sunday night, when Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was getting drilled by a couple of Lions defenders. Stafford was able to complete what was an awkwardly angled pass to receiver Demarcus Robinson.

Stafford dropped back, felt the pressure coming, and threw the pass across to the left side of the field while getting hit, throwing it at a difficult angle. It was completed, but it wasn’t that long of a completion.

The play drew hilarious reviews from Collinsworth, who called it the throw of the year. Keep in mind, it’s just Week 1.

It was certainly a good throw, but far from the pass of the year. Especially since there are 17 more weeks of football left on the slate. But that’s just Collinsworth being Collinsworth!

It was a really good throw by Stafford, but far from the pass of the year. But hey, football season is back and Collinsworth can’t get enough like the rest of us.

Collinsworth got to see a good one on Sunday Night Football

The Detroit Lions ended up winning Sunday night’s game, thanks to their offensive line grinding the game away in overtime. The Lions lined up and ran the ball down the Rams’ throats. And there simply wasn’t anything Los Angeles could do to stop them. Just how Dan Campbell would want it.

Lions running back David Montgomery punched the ball in from the one-yard line, lifting Detroit to a 26-20 overtime victory over the Rams. Detroit quarterback Jared Goff largely struggled in the second half, but he did connect with speedy wideout Jameson Williams for a 52-yard touchdown toss. That put the Lions up 17-3 early in the third quarter, and they were able to hold on for the win, thanks to their performance in overtime.

Williams finished with a career-high of 121 receiving yards, five catches, and a touchdown. The future is bright for him, no doubt about it. And he should be one of the league’s most exciting stars in 2024 and beyond.

Lions running back David Montgomery finished with 91 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Rams star receiver Puka Nacua had to leave the game with an injury and didn’t return. But Cooper Kupp was able to step up in his place, hauling in 14 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown.
