Dak Prescott, George Pickens connect as Cowboys WR makes impressive catch in practice

The Dallas Cowboys are banking on the Dak Prescott–George Pickens connection this season. Pickens comes to Dallas via the Pittsburgh Steelers in an offseason trade. Needing a secondary receiver to CeeDee Lamb, Pickens is thought to be the right guy for the job.
Especially due to his vertical threat ability — something the Cowboys have not had since Michael Gallup was a consistent player for them. Thankfully, flashes are being shown during training camp in Oxnard. And the latest came during Tuesday’s practice.
Pickens was going up the left-hand sideline, one-on-one against Daron Bland. Prescott fired from a clean pocket, throwing it up for a 50/50 opportunity. Bland never really stood a chance and Pickens came down with quite an impressive catch. You can check out the full moment, caught by Tommy Yarrish of DallasCowboys.com, here.
Pickens put together a few nice seasons in Pittsburgh but is hoping to fully break out right before hitting free agency. Last year saw him catch 59 passes for 900 yards, solid numbers given the circumstances. You have to imagine Pickens wants a lot more than three touchdowns, though.
From the get-go, head coach Brian Schottenheimer has liked the mentality from Pickens. Maybe having a bit of a reputation from his time with the Steelers, Schotteheimer believes Pickens has been working the right way since arriving in Dallas.

“From the time we got George and we went in my office and spent some time together, shot some free throws and just talked and got to know each other, he made it very clear, he was like, ‘Coach, I’m thrilled to be here, No. 1. I want to be coached. I want to be great. … Lean into me. Be tough on me. Tell me the things I need to do,'” Schottenheimer said via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “He’s been nothing but incredible in terms of the way he’s worked with us, the way he has communicated with us.”
Cowboys fans hope the mentality pays off in a big way. Catches like the one he made on Tuesday will be more than welcome during the Sept. 4 season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. One of the top secondaries in the NFL will be lining up across from Pickens.
For now, the training camp highlights will have to do. A good sign that Prescott and Pickens are building the required chemistry before the lights turn bright.
