Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is dealing with a hip injury, head coach Brian Schottenheimer announced Wednesday. Schottenheimer added that it’s “nothing major.”

“He’s going to be fine, but we’re going to be real smart with the tempo today,” Schottenheimer said.

It’ll be something to monitor ahead of the Cowboys’ Week 12 home game against the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday. Prescott, 32, has remained healthy this season after undergoing hamstring surgery which saw him miss the final nine games of the 2024 season.

The result has been a Prescott playing at a level near what we saw from him in 2023, when he finished second in MVP voting. Prescott has thrown for 2,587 yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions on a career-high 69.9% passing. He is first among quarterbacks with a 75.1 QBR.

Prescott was superb in Monday’s 33-16 Week 11 road win over the Las Vegas Raiders. He completed 25-of-33 passes for 268 yards and four touchdowns. The receiver duo of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens were responsible for 210 of those yards and two of the four scores.

Dak Prescott optimistic about Cowboys chances of going on run to playoffs

The Cowboys are 4-5-1, 10th in the NFC. While a return to the postseason is still mathematically a long shot, it’s not impossible. The Eagles have a 3½-game lead over the Cowboys in the NFC East. Dallas and Philadelphia meet Sunday at AT&T Stadium, kicking off a tough stretch of games for the Cowboys. After the Eagles, they play the Kansas City Chiefs at home on Thanksgiving and the Detroit Lions the following Thursday.

According to the New York Times’ simulator, the Cowboys have a 10% chance of making the playoffs. If they beat the Eagles, that goes up to 18%. A loss knocks them down to 4%. Prescott believes the team is capable of going on a run to the playoffs.

“And I know I’ve been saying that, [and] I’ll probably keep saying that, ‘Why not?’ And it’s more about we’re in control, right? We’re in control, and life’s going to throw things at us, and it threw us a hell of a curveball this past week,” Prescott said, via Todd Archer of ESPN. “And how are we going to respond? That’s what I was telling the team. To have a testimony we’ve got to go through a test. And this is a big test to our brotherhood and who we are, and to this organization, to us individually.

“Let’s have pride and let’s honor our brother. And if we can continue to do that, move forward carrying that light and play the way that we did tonight, why not?”
