Dak Prescott injury update: Dallas Cowboys QB expects to be 'full go' for training camp

With training camp on the horizon, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott expects to be ready to roll. He told reporters he’s healthy, pending an “official sign-off” by the medical staff.

Prescott suffered a hamstring injury late in the 2024 season which later required surgery. He has been progressing throughout the offseason, but now appears close to a return.

The Cowboys open training camp July 22. When they arrive in Oxnard, Prescott said he’s planning to be on the field.

“I’ll be full go for camp,” Prescott said. “I’m healthy. I think soon here I’ll probably get an official sign-off from doc, but I’m healthy.”

Prescott suffered in the injury in the first year of a lucrative contract extension signed last offseason. He threw for 1,978 yards and 11 touchdowns through eight games before suffering the injury in a Week 9 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.

Prescott previously said his goal was to be ready for Week 1 as he recovered from the injury. It appears that will be the case as he plans to participate in training camp later this month.

The Cowboys are preparing to enter a new era in 2025 with new head coach Brian Schottenheimer taking over for Mike McCarthy. The franchise also added to the offense around Dak Prescott, most notably landing wide receiver George Pickens in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is expected to play a key role opposite CeeDee Lamb.

Prescott previously shared his excitement for what Pickens brings to the offense and said they are working to built a rapport. He also pointed out the way he and Lamb can provide a one-two punch at receiver.

“We’ve connected,” Prescott said earlier this offseason. “I’m excited. You turn on the tape, you see a guy that can catch the football. You put the football anywhere in his vicinity, very strong hands. More than a 50/50 catcher. He thinks it’s his ball when it’s in the air. I’m excited for him. I know we needed some help at that position. … It’s hard to double team two guys. … I think we’re putting together a nice group of weapons.”

The Cowboys open the 2025 season on Sept. 4 against the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. That will mark the very first game of the NFL season on a Thursday night.
