Dak Prescott reveals mindset in practice after Marshawn Kneeland death

The Dallas Cowboys find themselves dealing with two things at once. On one hand, they are just a few days ahead of a Monday Night Football showdown against the Las Vegas Raiders. But many are still dealing with and thinking about the death of teammate Marshawn Kneeland. Quarterback Dak Prescott is no different.
So, back on the practice field for the first time on Tuesday, Prescott revealed his mindset through the period. He admitted there were moments where Kneeland came to mind. But football is “medicine” for Prescott, something that’s been consistent through his whole life.
“It was great. (Brian Schottenheimer) said it earlier in the week, some guys are going to get on the field and it’s going to hurt,” Prescott said via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “And some guys are going to get out there and it’s going to be the best medicine for them. Having dealt with a loss, that is the best medicine for me.
“Getting back out there, handing the ball off and sprinting an extra 10 yards, and making sure I’m doing it hard. Marshawn went through my mind a few times. I just counted that with running harder after a play or trying to do something to better this team and to show that.”
The Cowboys plan to honor Kneeland in multiple ways moving forward. Stickers with the number 54 will be on the back of helmets, while a foundation has been set up for Kneeland’s family and girlfriend. A moment of silence is planned before the team’s next home game, scheduled for Nov. 23 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

As for the practice itself, Prescott feels good about where the team sits. This will be the Cowboys’ first game after the trade deadline, getting some fresh faces in the building. Some players returning for injury bring some excitement too. Prescott appeared to have a positive outlook on moving forward with football while continuing to remember Kneeland.
“It felt good,” Prescott said. “It was a great practice. Good energy. Beautiful weather. We’re not forgetting, but we’re moving forward and carrying on the light.”
Kickoff from Las Vegas is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. CT and 5:15 p.m. local time. Dallas is looking to get back on track after a loss two weeks ago to the Arizona Cardinals, also on Monday Night Football. A lot more than just football remains on their minds through this difficult period.
