Quarterback Dak Prescott set a new franchise record on Monday night in the Dallas Cowboys‘ wild card matchup on the road versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After starting the game with three straight incompletions, Prescott strung together 11 completions to set a new Cowboys playoff record.

The former Mississippi State star is coming off of one of the worst performances of his career. He completed just 14 passes out of 37 attempts, with one interception, in the Week 18 loss to Washington.

Prescott kept his confidence up this week, however, and vowed once again to shake his mistakes off.

Dallas leads Tampa Bay in the first half after two touchdown passes from Prescott to Dalton Schultz and a touchdown run. The quarterback’s touchdown run made him just the sixth quarterback in NFL history to record both a TD pass and run in four career postseason games.

Trevon Diggs defends Prescott amid turnover streak

A top concern for the Dallas Cowboys’ chances on Monday night versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was Prescott‘s recent streak of turnovers.

His latest on Sunday versus Washington extended his streak to seven games with a turnover, which helped him finish the season tied with Davis Mills for the lead in interceptions thrown this season.

Fourteen of his 15 turnovers came after his return from a thumb injury in mid-December.

Although Prescott’s streak has been problematic, Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs, who is somewhat of an interception expert himself, was very vocal this week with his defense of his QB.

Joining The 33rd Team on Wednesday, the 2021 interceptions leader said he’s not sweating it over Prescott’s picks.

“I know what Dak’s going to do… he’s a winner,” Diggs said. “I know he’s going to come back with a stronger game, so I’m never sweating. I’m never tripping. I know Dak is going to lead us to where we need to go.”

So far, so good for Prescott and the Cowboys.
