Dale Earnhardt Jr. gives sneak peek into his, Richard Petty role in upcoming Luke Combs music video

Dale Earnhardt Jr. shared some details about his role in a Luke Combs music video that also features Richard Petty. On Dale Jr. Download, Earnhardt shared what fans can expect from the music video that will be released on Friday.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. said that Luke Combs sent him a text and asked him if he wanted to be in a music video for his new song. The NASCAR Hall of Famer said yes, and the two discussed filming the music video at Charlotte Motor Speedway with a NextGen car.
“We looked around, and there weren’t really any NextGen cars available for us to use,” Earnhardt said. This led to Earnhardt asking Combs about going to a short track and using one of the late-model stock cars since the song is a “comeback story.”
“This will be great to shine a light on grassroots racing, to shine a light on late models,” Earnhardt explained. “We went to Tri-County Motor Speedway, which is about an hour and 15 minutes from the house. We wrapped two of our late-model cars identically, so we’d have one car with all the windows out of it and a bunch of cameras mounted all over it, and then another car that looked clear and you film car from a distance.”

Earnhardt then said that they filmed Combs in the grandstand and walking around the track. They also filmed him in the flagstand while Earnhardt was driving around the track. Earnhardt said he “ran some hard laps in the car with the cameras mounted all over it,” before getting in his car and running “25 really hard laps.”

As for Richard Petty’s role in the music video, Earnhardt said, “He kind of comes in at the end. He’s like, ‘Hey, my turn. I want to run. I want to drive.’
“I was honored to be asked to do it,” Earnhardt added. “I’m thankful that Luke and his team thought of me and Richard and included us in this project. Pretty cool, pretty awesome opportunity. I look forward to what people’s reaction is to it.”
The new song is called “Back in the Saddle,” and Combs wrote it with Jonathan Singleton and The Brothers Hunt. Combs is a country music singer from North Carolina who earned eight Grammy Award nominations in his career.
