Dale Earnhardt Jr. predicts Joey Logano gets back at Ross Chastain for Chicago

Dale Earnhardt Jr. watched during the Chicago Street Race as Ross Chastain spun Joey Logano near the end of the Grant Park 165. While the Trackhouse Racing wheelman thought he was exacting revenge, it was misguided, as Logano was the wrong driver to take his frustration out on.

The reigning Cup Series champion was dumped in Turn 2 by Chastain, moments after Chastain had been pushed into the tire barrier by a pile of cars behind him. Evidently, Chastain seemed to think Logano was at fault, which wasn’t the case.

Instead, it was Austin Cindric who came in too hot to Turn 1 and caused the chain reaction. Earnhardt Jr. weighed in on the whole thing, via this week’s episode on the Dale Jr. Download.

“Ross Chastain I guess destroyed Logano and (Ricky) Stenhouse and now I bet Ross feels pretty crummy having seen a replay of how that all went down,” Earnhardt stated. “F*cking hilarious. The No. 2 is Cindric. I love this guy, he’s a funny guy. But he totally stepped on his d*ck right there.

“And we played the replay and the car, he’s hauling ass into Turn 1 and the rear tires are locked up. And it was just like Kyle Busch at the wet in Mexico but there wasn’t no excuse. That car’s going doh doh doh doh doh and he’s like, ‘Oh sh*t!’ And nobody in front has any idea what’s coming.

“… It all happened so fast. And I was like, ‘Oh sh*t, Ross is wrecked.’ I didn’t pick up on he bounces off the wall and just grabs the gear and keeps going. Goes down into the corner and dumps the 22.”

Logano, of course, was heated afterwards. He instantly blasted Chastain over his team’s radio, accusing him of retaliating with no idea what had actually happened in the first place. It would even lead to a contentious meeting on pit road after the race, with Logano getting in Chastain’s face and gave him a piece of his mind.

Now, the question is whether or not Logano will respond on the track, along with when and where it could happen. Earnhardt Jr. is certainly expecting the No. 22 wheelman to get some revenge, but there’s many different shapes and sizes it could come in.

“Joey will probably get Ross back, at some point,” Earnhardt Jr. added. “It might be a year from now. We might not even notice or recognize it. Something will happen somewhere on the race track that might just be — it might just be Joey air-blocking Ross and costing him a few spots on the restart.

“It might be something that cost Ross a bunch of spots that we don’t even recognize, we don’t even connect back to this and Joey will be like, ‘Yeah, got your ass.’ … I hope we’re that lucky, that they’re in that sort of scenario in a couple of weeks.”

Alas, it’s not hard to see why Joey Logano was frustrated with Ross Chastain. Dale Earnhardt Jr. recognizes there’s some more meat on the bone regarding this rivalry, and he’s just hoping it continues throughout his coverage of the Cup Series on TNT Sports this summer.
