Tonight may have been one of the most up-and-down races ever for JR Motorsports co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. The NASCAR Xfinity Series can get really expensive for a five-car team.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is going to welcome home a winner in Justin Allgaier. However, Sam Mayer, Brandon Jones, and Carson Kvapil were all wrecked during the course of the race. Kvapil suffered his wreck on the last lap of the race.

That wrecked is also the thing that allowed Justin Allgaier to claim the win. So, you could say it’s all about balance. For Dale Jr. it’s more about his bank account balance.

“You enter 5. Wreck 3. A top 6 and a win. I’m happy, sad, mad, glad. Very conflicted,” Earnhardt wrote on X.com, formerly known as Twitter.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has seen about all there is to see in NASCAR. Between his own racing career and now as an owner in the Xfinity Series. Today was a bit of a ridiculous example of the highs and lows of motorsports.

With five cars on the track, Dale Jr. has a lot of money out there as well. It’s up to him to hire drivers who won’t wreck cars on a regular basis. There are times when you can’t avoid it. Today, that was the case for three of his drivers. The other two had great races.

Sammy Smith finished P5 in the end. It was a good showing for Smith, something he has lacked since making the switch to JR Motorsports. For Allgaier, it was his second win of the season and his sixth straight top-10 result.

Justin Allgaier gets the win for Dale Earnhardt Jr.

With the finish of this race, Justin Allgaier not only picks up his second win of the season. He also now has more career Xfinity Series wins than his boss, Dale Jr. However, other history was made as well with this finish.

Sheldon Creed has now finished P2 eleven different times. That is the most runner-up finishes in the series without a win by any driver ever. He had been tied at ten with Dale Jarrett and Daniel Hemric.

Another heartbreaker for Creed who was hoping to build a run strong enough to beat Allgaier to the line. But another top-5 finish as well. No one likes to points race, especially a driver looking for their first career win, but he’s not in a bad position.

Justin Allgaier is the big winner. Gator gets it done in Michigan for the first time and he’s happy to burn it down for the fans in the stands afterward.
