Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey was attempting to break the NFL’s streak for perfect kicks in a season on Sunday against the Washington Commanders. Instead, the rookie kicker’s streak ended at 35 kicks after a 32-yard field goal attempt was blocked and returned to the Dallas 29-yard line.

Aubrey needed just two more makes to tie the record of 37 consecutive made kicks in a single season. Instead, his streak ends at 35. He ties the No. 2 kicker in the record book, former Vikings star Gary Anderson who kicked 35 straight in 1998. The record holder is Mike Vanderjagt of the Colts. He made 37 field goals in 2003.

Aubrey already owns the NFL’s record for consecutive field goals made to start an NFL career. Against the Rams, he tied Cleveland Browns kicker Travis Coons’ league record, set in 2015, for consecutive makes to start a career with 18. He surpassed Coons to set the new league record of 19 makes with a 51-yarder against the Philadelphia Eagles. Since then, he’s extended the record to 35 makes to start a career.

The Cowboys signed Aubrey after he wrapped up a season with the USFL’s Birmingham Stallions. To make things sweeter, he grew up in DFW, playing soccer for Plano High School. He initially had an MLS career and a collegiate career playing soccer for Notre Dame.

Aside from disrupting the Cowboys’ path to the No. 2 seed and the NFC East title, the Commanders have little to go all-out for on Sunday. Washington is 4-12 and reportedly nearing a parting of ways with head coach Ron Rivera.

Eagles star AJ Brown injures knee vs Giants

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown was injured in the first quarter of the Giants game on Sunday afternoon. He was down on the ground clutching his right knee for a few minutes, before heading into the medical tent with the Eagles training staff. After spending a few minutes in the medical tent, he headed to the locker room for further medical evaluation.

The Eagles officially ruled him as questionable to return to the game with a knee injury, per their Twitter pageNFL Network’s Ian Rapoport also said that based on the initial exam of the knee, the wideout’s ACL is intact.

If the Philadelphia Eagles lose on Sunday, then the Dallas Cowboys have an unimpeded lead for the NFC East title.
