Just two days away from Dallas Cowboys training camp beginning in Oxnard, CeeDee Lamb does not have a contract extension. And according to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, there have not been “Substantial” talks between the organization and the wide receiver ahead of the team’s arrival out West.

Certainly not the update Cowboys fans would want.

“As the Cowboys get ready to leave for training camp today the organization hasn’t had substantial contract talks with receiver CeeDee Lamb, a person with knowledge of the discussions said,” Watkins said via X.

Watkins added two scenarios are on the table for Lamb in the coming days.

One is a holdout, something that has been reported on for a few weeks. Fines would be handed out and Lamb would have some cash come out of his pocket but not anything unusual for NFL players. Lamb could also report to training camp, avoiding the fines, but still watching from the sideline and not practicing.

“This can go in several ways: Holdout by Lamb. Come to camp but not practice as contract talks continue,” Watkins said.

A previous report stated Lamb’s contract situation had been put in front of quarterback Dak Prescott on the priority list. No exact reason was given but the potential of a holdout certainly plays a role. Lamb is at risk of missing training camp while Prescott will be in Oxnard, preparing for the 2024 season.

However, to this point, conversations have reportedly not taken place. Dallas is known to take some time on their contract negotiations, especially with star players. Micah Parsons is seeking a new deal as well.

Lamb appears to be no different as his situation will be a story heading into training camp.

If/when Dallas gets something done with Lamb, he would become just the latest NFL wide receiver to get a nice payday this offseason. AJ BrownJustin JeffersonAmon-Ra St. Brown, and Jaylen Waddle have all received fresh deals from their respective teams.

Lamb certainly has the chance to be the highest-paid of them all, something the Cowboys risked by waiting so long to get an extension completed.

He’s fresh off a career-best season, going for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns on 135 receptions, the most in the NFL in 2023. Lamb finished eight games with at least 100 yards, including an incredible 227-yard performance against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football.
