Dak Prescott wins weekly NFC award for record-setting game

Dak Prescott earned another accolade that he probably won’t think twice about this week. After shrugging off his big game versus the Eagles, Prescott won the NFC’s offensive player of the week award.

After completing 21 of 27 passes for 295 yards, five scores and no interceptions, Prescott quickly shifted focus to the postseason.

“The stats and all that, the way we finished was great. It’s what we wanted to do, build momentum, get in a rhythm – but none of that matters anymore,” Prescott said after the game Saturday. “You get into this tournament, and it’s one game at a time. It’s must-win. So that’s the focus.”

On the year, the former Mississippi State Bulldog has 4,449 passing yards, 37 touchdowns and a career-high 68.8 completion percentage.

The Cowboys locked in their postseason appearance weeks ago but after losing two games, they wanted to break the streak versus the Eagles. Now, they host the San Francisco 49ers in AT&T Stadium with some momentum. The game kicks off at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill won the award for the AFC. Tannehill had almost as successful of a day with 287 yards and four scores.

Prescott sets personal, franchise records

On a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter of Saturday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Dak Prescott set two marks — one franchise and one personal.

The 8-yard touchdown toss to running back Corey Clement was Prescott’s 37th touchdown of the season, a franchise record. Former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo set the previous record of 36 scores through the air in 2007.

Further, Prescott has never thrown five touchdown passes in a game, so the game’s performance was a personal record for the sixth-year player.

Dan Quinn responds to interview requests

Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn’s name is on the tip of most general managers’ tongues right now. However, the former Atlanta Falcons head coach is singularly focused on getting Jerry Jones’ squad past the 49ers.

“There’s just simply nothing to report on from my end,” Quinn said. “It’s nice to hear if someone is interested. But there’s really nothing to add on my end.”

This is not the first time Quinn has denied interest in taking on another head coaching opportunity. He has reiterated on various occasions that he is content right now in his position with the Cowboys.
