Dallas Cowboys sign kicker Tristan Vizcaino

The Dallas Cowboys have signed kicker Tristan Vizcaino on Wednesday evening, according to Pro Football Talk. Since 2019, Vizcaino has bounced around several teams in the National Football League, including the Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers, Arizona Cardinals, and the New England Patriots. On January 18, 2023, Vizcaino was signed to the Cowboys’ practice squad. The Cowboys officially signed him to their offseason roster on Wednesday, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.
Vizcaino kicked off for the Patriots last year, going 2-for-2 on field goals and 3-for-3 on his extra points in one appearance with the Arizona Cardinals. In the 2021, the former Washington Husky drilled 6-of-7 field goals, but hit 10-of-15 extra points for the LA Chargers.
The Cowboys’ front office recently stated that they were ready to go “back to the drawing board” at kicker. In the Wild Card matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas kicker Brett Maher missed a staggering four of five extra point attempts, the most misses in any NFL game–regular season or playoffs–since 1932.

It’s not a surprise at all the Cowboys decided to add Vizcaino to their roster and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them add one more as well. During his college career for the Washington Huskies, his most significant action came in 2017–when he made 12 field goals. He also went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft.
During his NFL career thus far, Vizcaino has drilled 11-of-12 field goal attempts, with the longest kick he’s made being a 47-yarder. We’ll see how he does in the future with the Cowboys. One thing is for certain. Jerry Jones’ patience with his kickers is incredibly thin these days. So, he’d better perform at a high level, or Dallas won’t hesitate to bring in some more competition.
