Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones announced on Monday that the 2024 East-West Shrine Bowl will practice and play at the Cowboys’ facilities in Frisco.

The Star will play host to the longest-running pre-draft event after the bowl game’s two-year stint in Las Vegas.

“It is a tremendous honor to host the East-West Shrine Bowl at the Ford Center at The Star next February,” Jones said, via the news release. “The game is a fixture in college football. We look forward to bringing the best college football players in the country to Frisco in the spirit of helping Shriners Children’s care for young patients around the world.”

The first East-West Shrine Bowl was played on December 26, 1925, at San Francisco’s Ewing Field in front of 25,000 spectators. It was the first college all-star game of its kind. The game hosts approximately 130 college football players from 100 universities. The 2024 edition of the East-West Shrine Bowl will be the 99th annual game.

Since 2001, the game has been held in seven different cities. It is the first time the bowl game will be played in North Texas.

“We’re thrilled to work with the Dallas Cowboys to host this game at the Ford Center at The Star and carry on the tradition of impacting lives beyond the football field,” said Kenny Craven, CEO of Shriners Children’s. “The East-West Shrine Bowl helps raise the profile of Shriners Children’s and the amazing care provided to children around the world.”

East-West Shrine Bowl produces first first-rounder in 10 years

Last year, the East-West Bowl produced some impressive talent for the 2023 NFL Draft. It had a first-round pick, seven top-100 picks, and two top-5-round QBs. The 2023 Shrine Bowl generated the most draft picks in 2023 than it had any class over the last decade. The game provides the players and draft hopefuls a chance to earn an invite to the NFL Combine.

Zay Flowers, the wide receiver from Boston College, was the first overall pick for the Baltimore Ravens. He was the first first-round pick out of the Shrine Bowl in the last 10 years.

Cowboys second-round draft pick, Luke Schoonmaker, out of Michigan, was another participant in the last cycle. Schoonmaker wasn’t the only East-West player that the Dallas Cowboys college scouts noticed this year. Fourth-round pick defensive lineman Viliami Fehoko and sixth-round pick cornerback Eric Scott Jr. also participated in the 2023 East-West Shrine Bowl game before going to Dallas in the draft.
