Troy Aikman took a shot at Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for his trade announcement. While appearing on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown ahead of the Cowboys vs. Arizona Cardinals game, Aikman was asked about Jones announcing he has a trade in place but would not share any additional details.

“I don’t know what that move is, I don’t know who it might be,” Troy Aikman said. “I think it’s interesting that you announce there’s a trade, but you’re not going to announce who it is. What do they have to give up, and what exactly does that look like? I guess we will all be evaluating that tomorrow sometime.”

When Jerry Jones appeared on SiriusXM Radio on Monday, he told Stephen A. Smith that the Cowboys have made a trade, and more moves could be on the way. “A lot of action going on right now in terms of trading. We certainly have made a trade, and we may make a couple more trades before that deadline,” Jones said, per NFL.com. “We’ve made one. We possibly could make two more, and I’m going to wait and let you read about that when we send the papers in tomorrow.”

Jerry Jones set to make Cowboys trade announcement on Tuesday

Before Aikman appeared on Monday Night Countdown, Jones was on the show to share more details on the trade. “Well, I hope you will appreciate that since the deadline is tomorrow, the details are tomorrow,” Jones said. “… The idea is are we busy thinking about it, or am I sitting up here thinking about the oil and gas, or am I trying to build a team? That’s trying to get our defense ready to go. I’ve taken a little kidding about some of my comments recently about our oil and gas business.

“But seriously, this is the time when we have a chance to help the Cowboys. Any time that I can do that, we burn the midnight oil and there’s a good chance we’ll have some things to talk about tomorrow.”

After the Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers before the start of the 2025 season, adding a pass rusher is a big need for the franchise. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Cowboys have spoken to the Cincinnati Bengals about DE Trey Hendrickson and LB Logan Wilson. Dallas has also reportedly spoken to the Miami Dolphins about DE Bradley Chubb.

Entering Monday’s game, the Cowboys are 3-4-1 on the year. A big reason for their losing record is that the defense is ranked near the bottom of the NFL in every major category, so Jones is hoping adding a top defender will give the Cowboys a boost for the second half of the season.
