Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs suffered an ACL injury last year and is now fully on the mend, but by the looks of the latest player rankings out ahead of the 2024 season, some believe he’s lost a step. First, Diggs was not ranked in CBS Sports’ top 100 players for 2024. Six of his teammates made the cut, but he didn’t earn so much as an honorable mention.

Now, ESPN has revealed positional rankings based on inside scoop from NFL executives, coaches and scouts. Though he does receive honorable mention, the former Alabama star is not ranked in league’s top 10 cornerbacks.

Diggs appeared to respond to the snubbing with a one-word take on social media, writing: “Comical.”

Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons also chimed in, saying, “I don’t think players should be the only ones getting drug tested 7!” Diggs responded to his teammate, quote-tweeting him with: “No bs…”

Diggs’ injury causes drop in rankings

The former second-round draft pick was one of three cornerbacks to receive honorable mention, joining the likes of Marlon Humphrey, Christian Gonzalez, A.J. Terrell, Charvarius Ward and Marshon Lattimore. Before tearing his ACL last season, the “NFL insiders” ranked him eighth in the league, which was an improvement on his No. 10 ranking ahead of the 2022 season.

In fairness, the execs who weighed in noted that Diggs’ ACL injury made it hard to compare him to the field.

“He was hard to place because of the health issue but he’s still one of the best ball hawks and he’s tried to play more disciplined in recent years,” an AFC executive said.

Ranked ahead of Diggs were Pat Surtain, Denzel Ward, Sauce Gardner, L’Jarius Sneed, Jalen Ramsey, Trent McDuffie, Jaire Alexander, Jaylon Johnson, Devon Witherspoon and Derek Stingley Jr. His Cowboys teammate, DaRon Bland, received votes but did not make the cut for honorable mention despite snagging an all-time high of five pick-sixes last season.

Last year, in the annual NFL Top 100, Diggs came in at No. 60. He was ranked 37 spots higher after his 2021 season, however, during which he posted 11 interceptions. The NFL begins the reveal of the new Top 100 next week as teams begin training camp.

Cowboys corner ready to remind league of ball-hawking ability

Earlier this month, Diggs took to social media to remind opposing NFL offenses of how potent the Cowboys secondary is with him back in the lineup. Even without him in the lineup last season, Dallas still boasted the league leader in interceptions with Bland playing in his place opposite Stephon Gilmore.

“Me & my Bruddah got like 30 sum Ints,” Diggs tweeted. “Do what you want with that info.”

Though some are discounting what the Cowboys cornerback can do after a year off the field, his teammates are not.

“I mean, a lot of people are not expecting what Tre is gonna come back with,” DaRon Bland said at the Reliant Energy Home Run Derby this spring. “I know what Tre is gonna come back with. It’s going to be something dangerous. Can’t wait.”

Diggs was off to a fast start before tearing his ACL last season. In two games, he came down with an interception and forced a fumble, leading the way for the Cowboys’ defense.
