George Pickens came under criticism last night for his performance for the Dallas Cowboys on ‘Thursday Night Football,’ especially on the postgame show on Amazon when he got his share from Richard Sherman. Now, the day after, he has shared, and since deleted, his response to those comments on social media.

Pickens posted, and has now deleted, a story on Instagram, firing back at the criticism from Sherman. The expletive-filled message explained his side of what happened, while also calling him out for parts of his career, namely the last four years of his time in the NFL.

“This is a team game lmao. I’m not the only one on the team. Stop becoming a analyst and talking about one player when he playin’ a team’s game,” Pickens wrote. “Lots of shh has to go right for explosive plays…and it’s funny ’cause I thought former players would know that as such.”

“RICHARD P**** A** SHERMAN WHO BTW AIN’T SHH WITHOUT THE LEGION OF BOOM. WE ALL REMEMBER SAN FRANCISCO BROTHER,” wrote Pickens on IG. “Much love. Don’t speak on me unless you know the game of football. As a former player not a d***riding fan/analyst that act like a double team is not a thing or certain bracket coverages don’t exist. Knowing you played ball which show me you a LEACH WEIRDO…Now twitter eat this up. Clouted ah world.”

In the 44-30 loss for Dallas to Detroit on TNF, Pickens finished with five catches on nine targets for 37 yards. That represented his least yardage and yards per catch of the season in his first year with the Cowboys. It was especially bad for their offense, too, as CeeDee Lamb exited with a concussion, so the Cowboys, who fell to 6-6-1, could’ve used more at that point from Pickens.

So, following the game, Sherman spoke on Pickens’ performance. He called him out for looking “uninterested” and said it was “unacceptable” for him to “half-a** it” like he thought he did.

“The big story here is George Pickens. George Pickens, throughout the game, especially late in the game, just looked uninterested, uninterested in playing football, you know. And that’s what you can’t have. If you’re gonna be a superstar, if you want to be the best receiver in the National Football League, you can’t ever be disengaged. It doesn’t matter if the game’s going your way or not going your way,” Sherman said. “You can’t just disappear in these games or else you’re not gonna have impact. Just right here? Cruising, cruising routes. You’re the guy! You’re the guy!

“CeeDee Lamb is not in this game. He’s out. And you get intercepted on your slant route. You can’t be the guy and half-ass it. And, I’m sorry, you just can’t – it’s unacceptable. And, if you’re the Dallas Cowboys, and you’re looking at him and you’re looking to pay him big-time receiver money, $40 million? You got to look at this tape and say, ‘Hey, is this a guy we can trust paying $40M to show up regardless of circumstance?’ And, I don’t know.”

Fair or not, Pickens decided to respond to that today. And, for one reason or another, he has taken that down now, in what looks to be a low moment for him, in what’s otherwise been a great year he’d had, this season in Dallas.
